I have felt such a peace with my Uncles passing because I know he is truly home. I hated seeing him in the nursing home. After the funeral we went back onto the farm and Brett, myself and Milly enjoyed walking down to the bridge. It was than that I began reflecting on how much I loved when I would wake up from a long drive to the farm ever time we hit his gravel driveway. Each time after I told Brett to be quite and just listen. I loved that sound because I knew a long journey ended and we were "home" at the farm. I picture Arnold walking down his driveway and being home again. I Know he is with loved one including my mom. I will never forget the memories made and the feeling of peace of finally being home.

A Life Well Lived

There is much to say about the passing of my Unlce Arnold. That I really can't even figure where to begin. I guess I will start with the impact he made on my life and the example he set. I loved the control he had of his temper, I know it had to be frustrating for him to have to fix all the messes we made as kids but he never once showed or cared he was just happy we were there. At his 90th Birthday party his friends made the remarks that he never once would lose his temper and I think that is an amazing attribute to have. I love how he loved my family and our spouses, Brett has made the comment before on how he knew from the get go that Arnold excepted him and liked him. But the last and best example he made on my life was at his funeral a friend and neighbor gave my Dad this letter, here are some of the highlights.
He talks about the farm crisis of the 80's and how my Uncle willing pulled out money, taking the early withdrawal penalties to help his friend financially. Although what really brought a tear to my eye was the missionary work my Uncle did not even being of the LDS faith. His friend writes... "The Lutheran faith was the faith of his ancestors and he remained loyal to this faith his entire life. He nevertheless , showed a great deal of respect for the Mormon faith, which was practiced by some of hie Western State relatives. His visit to the Mormon Temple in SLC was a great inspiration to him. He tried to describe to me the beauty of a large painting of Jesus Christ in one of the visitor galleries. I hope to see if myself someday". Thank you Arnold for all you were and Thanks for you example not only to me and my family but to others as well.
